NPCC Lady Knights Volleyball Goes 1-3 at Johnson County

NPCC Knights LogoOverland Park, Kan. –  The North Platte Community College Lady Knights volleyball team finished with one win and three losses at the Johnson County Community College Invitational tournament this weekend.

On Friday, the Lady Knights started out by playing the host college and 19th ranked Johnson County Community College Lady Cavaliers, losing to them in three sets, 25-17, 25-19 and 25-19.  Josie Palmer led the Lady Knights with five kills, and Jessica Lovitt added four kills.  Shelby Wolever finished the match with 15 set assists and Jessica Eckhout had 12 defensive digs to lead the Lady Knights.

In the second match on Friday, the Lady Knights were defeated by the 18th ranked Des Moines Area Community College Lady Bears in three sets 25-21, 25-21, and 25-21.  Lovitt led the Lady Knights with 10 kills and Palmer added eight.  Wolever had 13 set assists and 14 defensive digs.  Megan Chintala led North Platte with 15 defensive digs.

In the first match on Saturday, the Lady Knights won their only match of the tournament by defeating the Kansas City Kansas Community College Lady Blue Demons in four sets, 20-25 25-22, 26-24, and 26-24. Palmer had 12 kills and Lovitt added 11 kills to lead North Platte. Wolever added 37 set assists and 19 defensive digs in the win.

The Lady Knights finished their portion of the tournament by playing the fourth ranked Kirkwood Community College Lady Eagles.  The Lady Eagles won in straight sets by a score of 25-21, 25-17, and 25-20.  Palmer had eight kills. Wolever had 21 set assists, and Chintala had 15 defensive digs.

”I’m glad we got a game. They were all good teams,”Lady Knights Head Coach Alexa McCall said. “I thought we could have gotten some sets and there were times we could have battled a little harder. We have to use what we learned this weekend and get better.”

The Lady Knights, now 8-13 will travel to McCook on Tuesday, Oct. 4 to face the McCook Community College Lady Indians.  Then, on Wednesday, Oct. 5 they will host the Eastern Wyoming College Lady Lancers.  The match against EWC will be volleyball uniform night.
