Columbus – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights volleyball team lost two matches on day one of the Jimmy Johns invitational volleyball tournament in Columbus on Friday.
In the first match they lost to Bismarck State College in four sets 25-23, 25-19, 25-18, and 25-21. MaKenna Ketter led the Lady Knights with 14 kills. Shelby Wolever had 36 set assists and Megan Chintala had 40 defensive digs in the match.
In the second match of the day, the Lady Knights lost to the 17th ranked Fort Scott Community College Lady Greyhounds in straight sets, 25-22, 25-19, and 25-18.
Ketter and Jessica Lovitt each had six kills to lead the Lady Knights. Antonya Schaffert had 12 defensive digs and Wolever had 27 set assists.
Lady Knights Head Coach Alexa McCall said, “I thought we battled well but I thought we could have started a little better. We can’t play catch up all the time.”
The North Platte Community College Lady Knights volleyball team finished the Jimmy Johns Invitational by going 1-1 on day two, beating Kansas City Kansas Community, and then losing in the final match to Cowley County Community College.
In the first match against Kansas City Kansas, the Lady Knights won in five sets, 15-25, 25-22, 18-25, 25-19, and 16-14. Brooklyn Krehmeyer led the Lady Knights in kills with 13. Jessica Lovitt had 11 kills. Shelby Wolever had 37 set assists and Antonya Schaffert had 24 defensive digs.
Against Cowley, the 10th ranked team in the nation, the Lady Knights lost in three sets 15-25, 20-25, and 24-26. Krehmeyer again led in kills with 10. Makenna Ketter added seven kills. Wolever had 27 set assists and Megan Chintala had 15 defensive digs.
Lady Knights Head Coach Alexa McCall said, “I thought we played better today. We battled through and finished against Kansas City and that was big for us. I think we played well against Cowley we just came up short.”
The Lady Knights are now 9-18 on the season and will return home to play Northeast Community College on Friday, Oct 14.
