John Wallace Joneson, age 69, of North Platte, NE, died Friday, October 14, 2016, at Bryan Medical Center West in Lincoln, NE, following an accident.

John was born November 15, 1946, to Wallace Belstrom and Barbara Ann Andreau Joneson in Washington, DC. The family lived in Gothenburg, NE, then moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL where he attended school. John joined the U.S. Navy then returned to Florida following his discharge.

On February 25, 1966, John was united in marriage to Sherry Dawn Lynn in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. They moved to Nebraska and lived in Gothenburg, Brady and by 1987 had settled in North Platte. John worked for Gothenburg Feed Products then Farmland Service Co-op. He also served on the Brady Volunteer Fire Department from 1971 to 1985, was Brady Fire Chief from 1975-85, then went to work for the North Platte Fire Department in 1985. John was an EMT paramedic and became a Captain in 1996. He was also a member of the Local #831 and was the Western Vice-president of International Association of Fire Fighters. John loved his job and had received many awards from the fire department.

In May of 2011 John retired and enjoyed spending time with his family and taking vacations. He loved his children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time at their activities.

John leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Sherry, and sons, Brett (Kim) Joneson and Tonn Joneson, all of North Platte; daughter, Krista (Dallas) Choat, of Albion, NE; seven grandchildren, Cole and Caden Joneson, Bailey, Dylan, Dayton and Kailyn Choat, and Nevaeh Joneson; brother, Jim Joneson, of Lincoln, NE; sister, Jo Anne Nuss, of Miami, FL; as well as several nieces, nephews and other family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Barbara; and brother, Jeffrey Joneson.

Cremation was chosen. Memorial Service will be 2 p.m. Friday, October 21, 2016, at the North Platte Berean Church with Pastor James R. Mann officiating. The memorial book may be signed at odeanchapel.com or from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore, which is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to the North Platte Fire Dept., Brady Volunteer Fire Dept. or Paws-itive Partners.
