NPCC Lady Knights volleyball finishes 2-2 at Triton Invite

NPCC Knights LogoFort Dodge, Iowa – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights completed the first day of the Triton Invitational by going 1-1.

In the first match of the day, the Lady Knights defeated the Iowa Lakes Community College Lady Lakers in three sets: 25-16, 25-21, and 25-23.  MaKenna Ketter led the Lady Knight attack with 12 kills.  Brooklyn Krehmeyer added nine kills for the Lady Knights.  Shelby Wolever had 31 set assists and seven defensive digs to lead the Lady Knights in those categories.

In match number two, the Lady Knights faced the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I sixth ranked Indian Hills Community College Lady Warriors.  The Lady Warriors defeated the Lady Knights in straight sets, 25-18, 25-15, and 25-15.

Josie Palmer had seven kills to lead North Platte.  Wolever had 17 set assists and Megan Chintala added 11 defensive digs.

Lady Knights Head Coach Alexa McCall said, “We need to work on cleaning some of our play up and be more consistent. We are letting teams go on too big of runs and we have to eliminate those.”

In the first match of day two, the Lady Knights defeated the North Iowa Area Community College Lady Trojans in straight sets 26-24, 25-19, and 25-20, Sophomore Josie Palmer led the Lady Knight attack with 13 kills.  Shelby Wolever led the Lady Knights in set assists with 24 and Megan Chintala had 16 defensive digs.

In the second match of day two, the Lady Knights went the distance, but lost to the host Iowa Central Lady Tritons 24-26, 25-16, 25-17, 25-27, and 15-4.

Palmer again led the Lady Knights with 14 kills.  Fellow sophomore Jessisca Lovitt added 12 kills.  Wolever had 33 set assists and Chintala had 24 defensive digs.

Lady Knights Head Coach Alexa McCall said,  ” I thought we battled at times but we have to be quicker to recover. When we come out early we do a better job and we have to do that more often.”

The Lady Knights are now 12-23 on the season and will head to the postseason Oct 28-29 in the Region IX Division II tournament in Beatrice.  They will be the number two seed, they will play the number three seed Southeast Community College.  The winner of that match will play the number one seed Central Community College.
