A Thursday afternoon accident sent three people to the hospital in North Platte.

Just before 5:00 p.m., North Platte police and fire personnel responded to the report of an injury rollover accident at the intersection of 8th and Oak Streets.

According to Sergeant Gary Hovey, a minivan was southbound 0n Oak Street when, at the same time, a sedan was eastbound on 8th Street.  Hovey says the vehicles entered the intersection, which is unmarked, and collided.

The minivan rolled onto its top and came to rest south of the intersection on Oak Street, while the sedan remained in the intersection.

Police say two adults and a child from the minivan were transported to Great Plains Health with minor injuries.

Because the accident occurred at an unmarked intersection, Hovey said the vehicle on the right, the sedan, would have had the right-of-way. However, the crash remains under investigation.

“This time of year when the sun can block your view, these unmarked intersections are dangerous and people need to use caution,” Hovey said.

It is believed that both vehicles will be a total loss.
