Torrington, Wyo. – The North Platte Community College were defeated by the Northwest College Lady Trappers 75-63 on Friday night at the Eastern Wyoming College Invitational and defeated the Yellowstone Christian College Lady Centurions 83-54 Saturday afternoon to break a five game losing streak.
On Friday, the Lady Trappers controlled the game throughout, jumping out to a 22-7 lead at the end of the first half.
The Lady Knights were outscored 17-14 in the second quarter to trail at the break 39-21.
In the third quarter, the Lady Knights doubled their score by scoring 21 points in the quarter. The Lady Trappers led 61-42 at the end of the third.
The Lady Knights did outscore the Lady Trappers in the fourth quarter, 21-14, but was not enough.
The Lady Knights were led in scoring by Aljahnay Duncan with 19 points. Mai’Zhrae Zeno was the only other Lady Knight to score in double figures with 13 points. Thomesha Wilson led the Lady Knights with six rebounds.
Three Lady Trappers scored in double figures led by Lauren Hinkley with 14 points. Matti Creager added 13 points, and Domenica Gomes finished with 10 points. Julynne Silva finished with nine rebounds.
On Saturday afternoon, the Lady Knights started out fast against Yellowstone Christian College, leading 17-5 and led 26-16 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter was low scoring. The Lady Knights outscored the Lady Centurions 12-11 to lead at half time 38-27.
The Lady Knights continued in the third quarter to build on their lead by outscoring the Lady Centurions 18-15, leading 56-42.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Knights opened up the game outscoring the Lady Centurions 27-12 to secure the win.
Lady Knight Assistant Coach Ashley Bell said, “The girls played together and got their confidence back. There are still areas we need improvement in, but the girls competed and I’m very proud of them.
The Lady Knights are now 2-5 on the season. They were led in scoring by Mickenzie Brennan, who scored a career high 24 points. Thomesha Wilson added 21 points and Allison Tichy added 16 points. Wilson had a double-double with 12 rebounds.
The Lady Centurions are 0-4 on the season. Leonardine John was one of three Lady Centurions scoring in double figures with 12 points. Tayler Calf Boss Ribs and Zhane Akeya each had 10 points. Calf Boss Ribs led the Lady Centurions with seven rebounds.
The Lady Knights will next be in action Nov. 30, when they host Northwest Kansas Technical College.
