LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A 22-year-old man who shot into a Lincoln residence and killed someone inside has been sent to prison for 70 years to life.
Brandon Benson was sentenced Wednesday in Lancaster County District Court. He’d pleaded guilty second-degree murder and a weapons charge after making a deal with prosecutors, who lowered the murder charge and dropped several other weapons counts.
He was charged in connection with a November 2015 robbery attempt of people trying to buy marijuana. Authorities say Benson later went back to the house where the robbery attempt failed and fired several handgun rounds, killing 19-year-old Richard Randall Jr., of Plattsmouth. Police say Randall had arrived at the house after the botched robbery. A Bellevue man, Angok Wal, was wounded.
