Gerald L. Attebery Sr., 86, of Sugar City, Colorado, passed away May 17, 2017, at his home.
He was born on May 30, 1930, in North Platte to Howard Clay and Gladys Mabel (Chapp) Attebery. Jerry grew up in North Platte.
Gerald was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy, where he was a fireman, and from the U.S. Army, where he was a telecommunication’s tech assigned to an infantry unit in Korea. Jerry fought at Heartbreak Ridge in 1950-51.
He retired from WAPPA Department of Energy in 1990, as an engineering draftsman, in Phoenix.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Howard; mother, Mabel; older brother, Harold; and older sister, Betty (Attebery) Younghans.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dora Marie Attebery; four kids, Rose (Kal, who is deceased) Gokturk and Kathy (Tom) Porter, all of Arizona, Sue (Carl) Cronkright of Alabama, and Gerald “Jerry” L. Attebery Jr. of Colorado; a nephew, William “Bill” R. Younghans of Hershey; seven grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23, at Fort Lyon National Cemetery with military honors by the Rocky Ford Rifle Team and American Legion Post No. 8. Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
