Sharyn Leigh Saner

Sharyn Leigh Saner, 76, of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away May 28, 2017 at North Platte Care Center.  Sharyn was born August 19, 1940, of Sadie (Miller) and John Hilderbrand in Ogallala, Nebraska.

Sharyn grew up in Ogallala and after graduation in 1958, she moved to North Platte where she worked at Northern Bell as a telephone operator.  In the early 80s she attended Mid Plains Community College where she was certified as a Dietary Manager.  Sharyn had Cub Scout Dens, where she built elaborate cardboard castles, a Brownie Troop for 4 years, the P & S 4-H Club for 3 years.  She Loves her Lord and Savior with all her heart, and taught Sunday school for over 20 years, also helping with adult classes for over 10 years in church, and Bible studies later in the nursing home.  Sharyn served as a Reading aide for 2nd and 3rd graders from Lincoln, Cody, and Jefferson schools of North Platte.  When her children were old enough, she began working as a cook in Broken Bow’s nursing home, later cooking and/or managing in North Platte Linden Manor, and Seward, NE.  Upon returning to North Platte she worked at Linda’s Deli and Dunkin Donuts.

She married Paul Saner in Ogallala in 1960, and to this union raised 5 children.  Stephen (Rhonda) Harvey of Des Moines, Iowa, Daniel (Deanna) Saner of Kearney, Nebraska, James (Lynn) Saner of  North Platte, Nebraska, Deborah (Robert) Jochum of Sutherland, Nebraska, and Mark (Janna) Saner of North Platte.  She has had 19 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren.

She is survived by her siblings Loraine (Robert) Sherich of Yuma, Arizona, Charles (Roberta) Hilderbrand of Ogallala, Cactus Jack (Verna) Hilderbrand of Yuma, Arizona, Peggy (Robert) Mathes of Bradley, California, numerous nephews and nieces, grandchildren, aunts and uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents Sadie and John Hilderbrand, a step-mother Johanna Anderson Hilderbrand and Jo’s parents Anna and Fred Muller, an infant grandson, Nathan Saner, an infant son of Sharyn and Paul, her 2nd son Daniel Saner, a brother in-law Donald Antone Christensen, and a sister, Susan Lipsit of Bradley, California.

A memorial has been established in her memory.  Services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 2, 2017 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel.  Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6 to 8p.m. Thursday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Cremation will follow services and an inurnment will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at the North Platte Cemetery.  Carpenter Memorial Chapel is in care of arrangements.

 

Lawrence D. Knolles

Lawrence D. Knolles, age 90, of North Platte, died May 28, 2017 at Centennial Park.  Services are pending at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home.

Ruth A. Loving

Ruth A. Loving, age 84, of North Platte, NE, passed away at home surround by her family on Thursday, May 25, 2017.

Ruth was born June 16, 1932, in Chicago, IL, to Cora Ann Smith. Ruth grew up and attended school in Chicago then was united in marriage to George Edgar Loving on October 16, 1948, in Crown Point, IN. They were married for over 46 years when George passed away in 1995.

The Loving family eventually moved to North Platte in 1964. Ruth stayed busy at home raising 10 children. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother. Then as the kids grew up, she became a grandmother, great-grandmother and great great-grandmother, which she loved! Ruth also enjoyed gardening, crocheting and sewing and was famous for her homemade rolls.

She leaves behind her children, Dianna Emerson, Anne Loving, Hazel (Daniel) Perez, Harold (Barbara) Loving, and Robin (Mary Beth) Loving, all of North Platte, Johnnie Loving, of Omaha, NE, Nicci Loving (Rick Stroemer), of Kansas City, MO, and Mike (Juley) Loving, of Deltona, FL; daughter-in-law, Victoria Loving, of North Platte; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; honorary granddaughter, Julie Cassell; her siblings, Louise, Marie, Alice, Vera, Virginia, Deloris and Joe; as well as numerous other family members.

Along with her husband, George, Ruth was preceded in death by their children, George, Jr. and Bonnie Murphy; son-in-law, Clifford Emerson; her mother, Cora Smith; and siblings, William, Walter, Kathleen and George “Pat”.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore with Chaplain Gary Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore, which is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may also be shared at odeanchapel.com. Memorials are suggested to the Bridge of Hope or Guardians of the Children in lieu of flowers.

Merle C. Bargmann

Merle C. Bargmann, 85, of North Platte, passed away peacefully May 24, 2017, at Linden Court.

He was born on the family farm near Bancroft, Nebraska on January 23, 1932 to Harry and Lida (Beal) Bargmann.  They lived on the farm until 1937 when they moved into the town of Bancroft. At the age of 4, he began to follow his older brother, Lorne, to school. The teacher decided since he was there every day, he should begin his education. In high school, he participated in football and basketball and graduated in 1949. After various jobs, he began his career with the Nebraska Department of Roads in April of 1951. He worked in various places throughout the state until he was drafted in 1952, and entered the Army in January 1953. He attended basic training at Camp Polk, Lousiana. He served 17 months in Camp Saalfelden, located in the Austrian Alps. He was discharged in December of 1954. In January 1955, he married Marilyn M. Senden. They were blessed with three children. Merle resumed work with the Nebraska Department of Roads in the fall of 1955, where he worked out of Dist. 6, until retiring in February of 1997. He loved gardening, was an avid reader and especially loved hunting ducks at the Sutherland Reservoir with his good friends Earl and Sam. Merle had a love for life with a dry witty sense of humor. He was respected and well liked by friends, neighbors and co-workers.

Merle was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his brothers, Lorne and Arlan and a granddaughter, Jill.

He is survived by sons, Michael (Angie) Bargmann, Dennis Bargmann and daughter Beth Bargmann, all of North Platte; grandchildren Heidi (Josh) Gregg of York, Nebraska, Tracy (Kaily) Bargmann, Eric Bargmann, all of North Platte; Nathan (Stephanie) Bargmann of Soiux Falls, South Dakota; and great grandchildren, Kayley and Landen Gregg, Elyn and Alex Bargmann, Kayleb and Hallie of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and expected great granddaughter Rileigh  Bargmann of North Platte.

Alyce Colleen Milleson

Alyce Colleen Milleson, age 69 of North Platte, passed away May 26, 2017 at her home in North Platte.

Colleen was born on July 9, 1947 to Donald Milford and Betty Jane (Brown) Empfield.  She worked at Valley Vet Clinic for over 30 years.  Her greatest mentor in life was Dr. Ruth S. Kamino, with whom she worked beside at Valley Vet Clinic.  After retiring from Valley Vet, Colleen painted so she could travel with her daughters for sports, and worked in the cosmetics department at Wal-Mart after her girls went to college.

Colleen married William J. Milleson in 1984.  The couple raised three children together in North Platte.  During her life, Colleen enjoyed antique shopping, playing slot machines, and caring for animals.  Colleen’s love for animals was passed on to her three children.

Colleen is survived by her husband Bill;  her three children, son Josh Empfield, wife Jennifer, and grandson Liev of North Platte, daughter Kylie Bett, husband Daniel Ilten, and granddaughter Kynzlie Bett of Phillips, NE, and Kellie Ann Milleson of Lincoln, NE.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ron Empfield; and very dear friend, Diana Farrell.  After Diana’s passing, Colleen became close to Diana’s sister Judy and brother-in-law Lloyd Wagner of Arizona.

Gas grill explosion injures 2 Lincoln firefighters

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Authorities say two Lincoln firefighters have been injured by the explosion of a propane gas grill.

Residents using the grill alongside a garage behind an apartment building called 911 for help Monday evening when they noticed flames coming from a tube that attached the propane tank to the grill burners. The two firefighters were injured when the gas tank exploded.

The blast shattered apartment windows, blew a hole in the garage and scattered grill parts all over the area.

None of the apartment residents was injured. Lincoln Battalion Chief Leo Benes says the firefighters were treated for minor injuries at a hospital and then released.

Lincoln man injured when four-wheeler collides with SUV

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A Lincoln man has been hospitalized after his all-terrain vehicle collided with a sport utility vehicle.

The accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. Monday, about 7 miles (12 kilometers) east-southeast of Lincoln. The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says the southbound ATV was turning east onto Old Cheney Road when it struck the passenger side of the westbound SUV.

The man was flown to a Lincoln hospital for treatment of head and chest injuries. His name hasn’t been released. The SUV driver was not injured.

Authorities: Girl hurt in 60-foot fall at Iowa state park

DUNDEE, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say an 8-year-old girl has been injured after falling 60 feet (18 meters) at a state park in eastern Iowa.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources said in a news release that the girl was hiking with friends and family Sunday afternoon at Backbone State Park when she fell. Department spokesman Alex Murphy said Monday that the girl may have been jumping from rock to rock and then slipped, plunging down a steep embankment. He could not confirm the girl’s name.

The girl’s companions called 911 for help, and she was flown to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Her condition has not been released.

The park sits about 2 miles (3 kilometers) north of Dundee, which is 160 miles (260 kilometers) northeast of Des Moines.

Final autopsy results show Nebraska man died of exposure

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (AP) — Final autopsy results show a Scottsbluff man whose body was found in a ditch died of hypothermia.

Scottsbluff Police Capt. Brian Wasson says a pathologist concluded after toxicology test results were obtained that 45-year-old Billy LaDeaux died of his exposure to the elements. Wasson says nothing found by investigators suggests LaDeaux died as a result of a crime.

Two teenage boys found the body on April 29. LaDeaux was last seen by relatives on April 27, and Wasson says LaDeaux exchanged text messages with someone on April 28.

Man died after being pulled from apartment pool, police say

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Police say a man has died after being pulled from an apartment pool in northwest Omaha.

Medics were sent to the Camelot Village Apartments around 7 p.m. Sunday. They took over efforts to revive the man, who was soon taken to an Omaha hospital. Police said Monday morning that he died there.

Police identified the man as 23-year-old Jerry Adjiwandou.
