Steven K. “Jake” Jaenicke, 55, of North Platte passed away July 7, 2017, at Great Plains Health.
He was born on Nov. 13, 1961, in North Platte to Robert and Delores (Yanken) Jaenicke. Steve graduated with the class of 1981 from North Platte High School and attended Mid-Plains Community College. He worked at Denny Mogis for 20 years and then RC Trailer Sales. Most recently, he worked for the North Platte Public Schools as a mechanic for the transportation department. For a number of years, Steve raced stock cars and later enjoyed mud racing.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Herbert and Ellen Jaenicke and George and Opal Yanken.
He is survived by his parents; sisters, Christie (Richard) Copper and Cindy (Rod) Wheeler, all of North Platte; nieces, Amy (Adam) Sabatka and Natasha (Kenny) Delso; nephews, Justin (Alicia) Copper, Matthew (Samantha) Wheeler and Nathen (Trina) Wheeler; great-nieces and great-nephews, Cindy and Jacob Copper, Josiah and Nizhoni Munson, Skylyre, Dominik and Jacksyn Delso, Z’ria and Kaylynn Wheeler; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, at the First Assembly of God Church. The family requests casual wear. Burial will be at the Paxton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 5-8 p.m., on Wednesday, July 12, at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which is in charge of arrangements.
