Jedd Evan Bohlender

Jedd Evan Bohlender, 49, of Grand Island, died Dec. 19, 2017, at his home, surrounded by his family and fellow fire fighters.

Hi-O, Jedd was born in North Platte to Dr. Robert and Phyllis (Losh) Bohlender on Sept. 26, 1968. He went to high school at North Platte High School and graduated in 1986. After working behind many bulls being employed at North Platte Animal Clinic, he went on to earn an EMT/paramedic degree in 1996 from Mid Plains Community College. He worked as a fireman/paramedic for Grand Island Station 1 & 3 for 21 years. He was involved in Local I.A.F.F. 647 and Tri-City Safe Kids, the first check-up station safeguarding area kids. He never said no to “it’s for the kids.” Area parents trusted him for his work with their kids.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, being a gun enthusiast and four-wheeling in nearby rivers. He lived for his boys, grandkids and fire family. His “upfront” acknowledgement of acquiring PTSD and subsequent dealing with it has helped the fire family community. He was a much-loved son, baby brother, father and grandfather.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the River Rats Association.

“Uncle” Jedd was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, the Rev. John and Beatrice Losh, and Abe and Mildred Bohlender; and uncle, Dr. Jerry Bohlender.

Jedd is survived by his sons, Shawn (Reba) of Omaha, Seth, Cody and Bryce of Grand Island; sisters, Tina (Dan) of Scappoose, Oregon, and Becky (Jake) of North Platte; brother, Todd (Tammy) of Lincoln; father, Dr. Robert Bohlender of North Platte; mother, Phyllis Bohlender of Scappoose, Oregon; grandchildren, Dexter, Declynn and Dean of Omaha; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family with a fund to be established. Online condolences may be shared at curranfuneralchapel.com.

A celebration of Jedd’s life will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 27, at Third City Christian Church, 4100 W. 13th St., Grand Island, with the Rev. Adam Snoberger of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4–7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 26, at Fire Station 1, 409 E. Fonner Park Road. Curran Funeral Chapel, Grand Island, is assisting the family with arrangements.
