Shane Folk

Shane Folk, age 53, passed away Tuesday July 10, 2018 at his home in North Platte, surrounded by his treasured family after a 2 ½ year battle with colon cancer.

Shane was born August 22, 1964 in Mullen, NE to Jim and Ruby (Younkin) Folk.  He attended school K-12 in Mullen where he was an outstanding quarterback and safety for the Mullen Broncos Football team, earning all state honors.  He also excelled in golf and wrestling and was the 1982 Class D State Champion Wrestler at 105 pounds.  He was crowned homecoming king and graduated from Mullen High School in 1982.  He attended college at Kearney State and then returned home to Mullen to work in the family business, Farmers Elevator.  He later worked at the Coldwater Fish Hatchery and for 20 years at Federal Express Freight in North Platte.

Shane married Tonya Boots in Mullen on June 14, 1991 and they were blessed with three children, Brendan, Brett and Haeley.  Shane loved spending time with his family and friends, camping and fishing for walleye at Lake McConaughey and hunting deer, turkeys, pheasants and coyotes in the Sandhills.  He loved all sports and was an avid supporter of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, North Platte Bulldogs and Mullen Broncos and was extremely proud to be a North Platte Legion Baseball and University of Nebraska Kearney Football Dad.  He loved to tell jokes and stories and play practical jokes on his friends and family.  He never met a stranger and everyone who knew him loved him.  He was funny, friendly and outgoing and a great friend to many people.  But his greatest pride and joy in his life were his 3 children and he was a wonderful father and husband.

Shane is survived by Tonya, his wife of 27 years; children Brendan of Kearney, NE, Brett of Lincoln, NE, and Haeley at home; parents Jim and Ruby Folk of Mullen, NE; brother and sister-in-law Terry (Maria) Folk of Ogallala, NE; sister and brother-in-law Mendy (Steve) Stichka of Mullen, NE; and sister Lori Folk of Mullen, NE.  He also leaves his beloved nieces and nephews Emily and Kaylee Folk, Evan Folk, Michael and Matthew Stichka, and Gregory Smith; many aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family, as well as so many friends across the country, and his loyal Labrador, Maggie.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents George and Rana Younkin; his paternal grandparents Lewis and Inez Folk; uncles Clyde and George Younkin Jr. and Lewis Don Folk; aunt Marian Folk Downing; and brother-in-law Tom Boots.
