OSHKOSH, Neb. (AP) — The Nebraska State Patrol says it’s investigating the death of a woman being held in western Nebraska’s Garden County Jail.
The patrol says it was notified around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday that 37-year-old Candy Flood, of Sidney, had died at the jail in Oshkosh. Flood was being housed in the jail for Cheyenne County after being arrested Saturday on suspicion of disturbing the peace. That charge was filed against Flood by the Cheyenne County Attorney around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. Within 1.5 hours, a motion to dismiss the charge was filed, citing Flood’s death.
In a news release Wednesday, the patrol said preliminary information indicates a medical issue may have led to Flood’s death.
State law requires a grand jury investigation of all in-custody deaths.
