Donald R. Peters, age 84 of North Platte, passed away Thursday October 11, 2018 at Great Plains Health.
Don was born April 6, 1934 in North Platte to Ernest and Gladys (Johnson) Peters. He had a twin brother, Richard D., and their mom kept them in shoe boxes at her bedside! Sadly, Richard only survived for a few weeks. Don attended school at Curtis thru the 8th grade, then the UNSA (School of Agriculture), graduating in 1953. He joined the US Air Force in November of 1953 and served as a Bomb/Navigator Technician. He was Honorably Discharged in October of 1957. He returned to Curtis and worked as a service technician on heating/AC systems for Duckworth, and later worked as a truck driver. He married Joanne Rose Earney on January 21, 1965 at the First Methodist Church in North Platte. The couple had one son, Donald Patrick, and they lived in Central City, Ordville and North Platte where Joanne taught school. Don went to work as an electrician for the Union Pacific Railroad in 1968. He was a member of IBEW, Brotherhood of Electricians, and the First Methodist Church. He enjoyed cooking, horses, family gatherings, fixing things, and especially fishing.
Don is survived by his son Donald (Tonya) Peters of Charlotte, NC; granddaughter Lindy Nichole Peters; sister Velma Wright; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Joanne; grandparents; parents Ernest and Gladys Peters; siblings, infant twin brother Richard, Arthur, Robert, and Francis “Frankie”; brothers-in-law Fred Wright and Lynn Nichols; and sister-in-law Rosella Smith.
In lieu of flowers or memorials, his family wishes that his love of fishing be perpetuated by giving a child a pole and taking him or her fishing.
