Annetta Oden

Annetta Oden, 101, of North Platte, passed away October 26, 2018 at Centennial Park Retirement Village.  She was born March 2, 1917 to Henry and Carrie (Gruben) Gebhards near Nelson, NE.  She attended elementary and high school in Nuckolls County, NE, graduating from Nelson High School with the class of “35”.

She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Kearney State College and continued her graduate work at American University at Washington, D.C. and George Washington University at Washington, D.C.

Annetta began her teaching career in rural schools in Nuckolls County for five years. She went on to teach at Sumner, NE, and after several moves, each to a larger system, came to North Platte Public Schools in 1950, retiring in 1981, after 44 years of teaching, 31 of those years in North Platte.

On May 26, 1956 she was united in marriage to Charles T. Oden at First Lutheran Church in North Platte.  Charles preceded Annetta in death March 21, 1995.  During their marriage they traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada.  They also did extensive family history research of both the Oden and Gebhards families.

Annetta was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Platte, since 1956, Delta Kappa Gamma, Beta Chapter since 1954, and national, state and local retired teachers.

She is survived by a sister, Carrie Mae Pasewark, step-children, Phyllis Spaur and Sharon Dunning and numerous nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren.

Annetta was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; two sisters, Verna David and Adessa Dunn; brother, Chester B. Gebhards; an infant brother; step-children, Elaine Kockrow and Barbara McVey Mendenhall, and Dean Oden and other relatives.

Memorials are suggested to Donor’s choice.  Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens with Pastor Arnold Flater officiating.  Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which is in care of arrangements.
