Esther Rivera Duran, of North Platte, passed away surrounded by her
family at Great Plains Health on Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at the age of 73.
Esther was born August 30, 1945, to William ‘Bill’ Munos and Lenora
Hernandez (Perez) Rivera at North Platte where she grew up. Esther
attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School then moved to California where
she met the love of her life, Rosendo Q. ‘Ross’ Duran, Jr.
Esther and Ross were married in Reno, Nevada on August 15, 1970. They
eventually moved to Denver, Colorado with Ross’s work on the Union
Pacific Railroad then to North Platte in 1998. Esther and Ross had four
children and raised Brandy, Tommy, Michelle, and their grandchildren.
She was known to open her home and heart to anybody needing a family.
Esther loved being a homemaker, mom and wife but especially loved
spending time with her grandchildren. She loved cooking and dancing and
in her free time she enjoyed coloring. Esther will be remembered as a
woman who was always giving, accepting and forgiving.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross, and daughter, Ramona
Duran; parents, Bill and Lenora Rivera; brother, Rueben Rivera; and
sister, Nadine Dominguez.
Esther is survived by her children, Paul Rivera, Esther J. Rivera,
Roxanne (Daniel) Endicott, Michelle (Patricia) West, Tommy (Alice)
Vieyra and Brandy Duran Babcock, all of North Platte; nine
grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; her sister, Annie Vieyra, of
North Platte; brother, Bill, Jr. (Martina) Rivera, of Santa Anna,
California; and many other family members.
In keeping with Esther’s wishes, cremation was chosen and a private
family service will be at a later date. The memorial book may be signed
