ST. EDWARD, Neb. (AP) — The Nebraska State Patrol says two people are dead and a young girl injured following the head-on crash of a car and a pickup on state Highway 39 in Platte County.
The crash happened around 1 a.m. Saturday just southeast of St. Edward.
The crash killed 40-year-old Maggie Turpitt, of Genoa, and 24-year-old Daniel Sanchez, of Cedar Rapids.
The patrol says Sanchez was driving the car and overcorrected after entering a ditch. The car crossed the center line and collided head-on with the pickup driven by Turpitt.
The patrol says a young girl in Turpitt’s vehicle was taken to a hospital. Her condition was unavailable Saturday morning.
Sanchez and Turpitt were pronounced dead at the scene.
