Thomas ‘Tom’ Walter Smith, age 66, of North Platte, passed away August 1, 2015 at Great Plains Health. He was born November 25, 1948 in North Platte to Earl and Frieda (Epure) Smith. Tom attended North Platte public schools then enlisted in the United States Navy. He served on the USS Dubuque. After the Navy he worked in California at an electronics shop. He moved back to North Platte in 1975 where he met Clydene Drake. They married in 1985. Tom worked at various places including the Gerald Gentleman Station; Murphy’s Modern Music; his own electronics shop; Paulsen’s and True Value before retiring. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and camping. He was a member of VFW Post 1504. He will be remembered as a hard working man who liked to joke with people.
Survivors include his wife, Clydene of North Platte; sister Cynthia Shealy of Lexington, SC; uncles Leo Smith, Sidney Smith both of North Platte, Waldo Smith of Grandview, WA; aunt Anna Hayford of Grand Hills, CA; nephews Timothy and Thomas Bristol, Daniel Shealy, Clay Shealy; niece Holly Shealy; in addition ten great nephews and nieces; as well as numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Frieda Smith; and sister Patricia K. Smith.
A memorial has been established in his name and online condolences may be made at www.adamsswanson.com. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 4th, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home. Graveside inurnment will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 5th at Fort McPherson National Cemetery with military honors. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
