Huskers in the NFL Begin Training Camp

Nebraska FootballWith training camp now open for all 32 teams across the National Football League, a total of 30 former Huskers are battling for a spot on an NFL roster. Camps started as early as July 26, while the Detroit Lions were the last team to open camp with their first practice taking place on Monday, Aug. 3.

A few Huskers are making debuts with new teams this year, including Ndamukong Suh. The former All-American and Heisman finalist signed a 6-year $114 million contract with the Miami Dolphins in the offseason. The deal made Suh the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history.

2015 draft picks Ameer Abdullah (Detroit Lions), Randy Gregory (Dallas Cowboys) and Kenny Bell (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), along with multiple Huskers who signed with teams as undrafted free agents, are all getting their first taste of training camp.

The first preseason game of the year is the NFL/Hall of Fame Game on Sunday, Aug. 9 between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings, while the rest of the league opens the preseason starting Thursday, Aug. 13. The 2015 regular season kicks off on Thursday, Sept. 10 when the Steelers visit the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots.
