The North Platte Community College Lady Knights volleyball team dropped their two opening matches of the 2015 Subway Invitational on Friday, losing to Sheridan (Wyo.) College 25-21, 25-20, 16-25, 25-19, and Northeastern (Colo.) Junior College 26-24, 25-16, 25-20.

In the match against Sheridan, the Lady Knights were led by sophomore Valerie Most, from Brady, with 14 kills.  Aryn Meisinger and MaKenna Ketter each had seven kills.  Meisinger and Shelby Wolever each had 17 set assists. Most also had 11 digs.

Lady Knights head coach Alexa Hopping said, “I thought we did a lot of good things.  I wanted us to compete and that’s what we did.  We scored at least 20 points in the first two sets, so we do some good things.  We just need to put them together.”

Against Northeastern, the Lady Knights led much of the first set. Northeastern rallied to tie the score at 24-24 and scored the next two points to take the first set.

The Lady Knights were led in kils by Josie Palmer with five kills.  Most, Ketter and Jessica Lovitt each had four kills.

Meisinger had 11 set assists. Wolever added seven.  Megan Chintala had 11 digs to lead the Knights.

Hopping said, “Northeastern is a fast team. They had fast middles, Even if there wasn’t solid contact they were so fast that our middles weren’t off the ground.”

The Lady Knights continue action on Saturday when they face Eastern Wyoming College at 11 a.m. and finish off the tournament against Casper (Wyo.) College.

Eastern Wyoming went 0-2 during day one and Casper went 2-0.

Both of the Lady Knights games can be heard on ESPN 1410 radio and online at www.northplattpost.com.  They can also be watched on www.coachesaid.com.
