OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — A mother and daughter escaped an overnight house fire in Omaha, but a family cat was killed.
Firefighters were called to the northwest Omaha home around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.
Investigators say food left cooking on a stove unattended caused the fire. Flames and smoke damaged the kitchen, forcing the family from the home. No other injuries were reported.
The American Red Cross is helping the family.
