LaVay Edith Henderson, age 78 of North Platte, passed away Wednesday September 30, 2015 at Great Plains Health.
LaVay was born on May 9, 1937 in Fremont, NE to Lawrence and LaVerna (Foust) Hergenroder. She graduated from Fremont High School and then attended college for two years in Omaha. She worked at Occidental Building and Loan as a secretary before marrying Charles D. Henderson on August 10, 1957 in Omaha. After they were married, she worked for Allied Van Lines, then Mutual of Omaha until 1988 when they moved to North Platte for Charles’ job. In North Platte she worked at ESU16 as a secretary and later for Pella Windows. LaVay was a member of 1st Evangelical Lutheran Church and loved to sew, bake and do calligraphy. She was very thoughtful, always sending cards to family and friends. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and being surrounded by her family and friends.
LaVay is survived by her husband Charles of North Platte; five children Chuck (Jeanie) Henderson Jr. of Omaha, Terri Jensen of North Platte, Steve Henderson of North Platte, John (Shelley) Henderson of Ashland, NE and Tony (Jennifer) Henderson of North Platte; 9 grandchildren, Becky Henderson, Valarie Henderson, David (Sara) Henderson, Patrick (Chelsea) Jensen, Johnathon Henderson, Jessica (fiancé Kevin) Henderson, Kendal Brooks, Klair Henderson, Anthony Martinez; 2 great grandchildren Layla Gail LaVay Jensen and Caiden Henderson; one brother Leo (Linda) Hergenroder of Gretna, NE; as well as other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother Larry Hergenroder.
Memorials are suggested to the 1st Evangelical Lutheran Church and online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday October 3, 2015 at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home with Reverend Frank Fitch officiating. Inurnment will be at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery at a later date. Those wishing to do so may sign the register book from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Friday October 2, 2015 at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
