Our beloved Harriett Alice (Leth) Greenwalt, 95 of North Platte died peacefully September 5, 2015 at Linden Court.
Harriett was born in North Platte November 16, 1919, the first of three children to Charles and Anna Bostwick Leth. She graduated from North Platte High School in 1938, later attending business school in Denver. She married Alvin Greenwalt in 1944, traveling with him as he trained to be a glider pilot for the Army during WWII. Following the war, the Greenwalts lived in Fort Collins, Colorado, where Harriett worked in the registrar’s office of Colorado State University.
Harriett and Alvin returned to North Platte in 1957, where she lived the rest of her life. In 1961, she joined Mutual Building & Loan (now Bank of the West) as a teller and retiring after 23 years of service as a secretary, typist, bookkeeper, and financial counselor. Alvin Greenwalt died in 1975.
In 1978, Harriett married Alvin Weil of North Platte. They enjoyed traveling around the country in their mobile home, including many trips to Alaska and Canada. They were later divorced after more than 20 years of marriage.
Following a debilitating stroke in 2007, Harriett moved into Linden Manor, where she was joined by her sister, Kathryn, who passed away in 2012. Under the loving guardianship of Glenn and Barbara Leth, the kind staff of Linden Manor and Linden Court cared for her and gave her a home where her heart could feel peace.
Harriett loved to dance and swim, and she was always happy to share a warm smile and a hearty laugh. She was an avid Rummikub player, often hosting large games in her home. She devoted many years of service to the community through the Altrusa Club of North Platte, forming deep and lasting friendships. Her gentle spirit and her tender heart will be greatly missed.
