The 7th seed North Platte Lady Bulldogs softball team advanced to the championship quarterfinals of the Class B State Softball tournament with a 5-3 win over 2-seed Beatrice in the opening round of the tournament.

North Platte used the long ball with home runs from Kylie Engleman, Hallei Morales and Sydney McGahan, as well as seven innings of solid work in the circle from Taylar Coleman to get the victory.

The win is the first since 1999 at the state tournament for North Platte (had lost 11 straight games) and the first ever opening round victory (previously were 0-9 in first round games).

(7) North Platte will face (3) Elkhorn South at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15 in the championship quarterfinals on ESPN Radio 1410 and online at northplattepost.com. Elkhorn South defeated (6) Gretna 9-3 in their opening round game.
