Robert Lee Ellis, age 85, of North Platte, died October 31, 2015 at Centennial Park Retirement Center. He was born on May 24, 1930 in Clayton, KS to Leslie R. Sr. and Ethel (Troutner) Ellis.
Robert graduated from Clayton Kansas Rural High School. He then worked for the Maline family farming near North Platte. He married Barbara Baldwin on June 9, 1951 in Clayton, KS. Robert entered the U.S. Marin Corp on January 25, 1952 and served in North Carolina. After his discharge in 1954, the couple returned to North Platte where Robert worked for North Platte Plumbing. He later went to work for the City of North Platte Street Department where he continued for over 30 years before his health forced his retirement. His hobbies included hunting and fishing, and listening to country music.
Survivors include his wife Barbara of North Platte; 2 children, Marcia (Jess) Collins of Lumberbridge, N. Carolina, and Randy (Sue) Ellis of North Platte; grandchildren, Brian Ellis of Kearney, and Michael Ellis of North Platte; great-grandchild, Bentley Vargas; a sister, Myrna Jones of Oberlin, KS; and a brother, Von Ellis of Aurora, CO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Leslie R. Ellis Jr. A memorial has been established in his memory and online condolences can be made at www.adamsswanson.com.
Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday November 5, 2015 at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell with full military honors and the Reverend Brent Montgomery officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
