Broncos Defensive Coordinator Departs For Oakland

The Denver Broncos will once again have to replace their defensive coordinator. After one year with the team, Dennis Allen is departing to become the head coach of the Oakland Raiders. Allen came to the Broncos in the 2011 season after spending three seasons as the secondary coach of the New Orleans Saints. In his lone year as Denver’s defensive coordinator, the Broncos defense moved up from last in the league in both points allowed and yards allowed per game to 24th and 20th in those categories, respectively. The Broncos defense also increased their sack total from 23 in 2010 to 41, and sent three players to the Pro Bowl. The Broncos will be looking for their seventh defensive coordinator in seven years with Allen’s departure. Larry Coyer was the last defensive coordinator to last longer than one season with the team.
