Former Central Nebraska Theater to Reopen

ord-neORD, Neb. (AP) — A former central Nebraska theater is set to reopen as a space for community events.

The former Ord Theater, which has been sitting unused, will reopen as the Golden Husk with a kickoff event on Saturday. The building was constructed in 1928, and has served as a theater, cinema and event space.

HomeTown Competitiveness Coordinator Dahn Hagge says that the opening will be the first effort to make space available for a variety of events in the city.

The Valley Performing Arts Theatre group purchased the space in July. The group hopes that the facility will host many events, including plays and operas. Hagge says the theater’s name was changed because the acoustic material in the walls was made of corn husks.
