Some Nebraska Residents Relieved to See Deer Season End

Whitetail-Deer-BuckLINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Some landowners in northwest Lancaster County say they’re relieved to see the end of deer firearm season and once again can feel safe being outside.

The eight-day season ended Nov. 22. Residents Ken White and Kim Minge, who both have 20-acre plots north of Branched Oak Lake, say the surrounding areas are prime hunting ground and they try to stay inside to avoid any close calls. White says he has had an incident nearly every year since he moved to the area in 1981.

Lancaster County Sheriff Terry Wagner said his deputies respond to complaints of gunshots during hunting season nearly every year. The sheriff says there have been no hunting accidents in the county this year.

According to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, there have been seven nonfatal hunting accidents statewide this year.
