OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The Omaha Police Department has begun an investigation into earlier contact by officers with a man suspected of killing a woman and her 2-year-old daughter.
The suspect, 23-year-old Dontevous Loyd, has been charged with two counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder in the Sunday night shootings at an apartment in northwest Omaha. Investigators believe the shots were fired around 11 p.m.
The department said in a news release Wednesday that two officers were dispatched around 6:50 p.m. Sunday to check the well-being of people at the apartment and had direct contact with Loyd and a woman he’s accused of killing later, 22-year-old Destacia Straughn.
The department says the officers have been reassigned pending an investigation into whether the officers followed proper procedures.
