Sutherland Man, 81, Dies After Accidental Fire

LINCOLN-COUNTY-SHERIFF-1The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office says an 81-year-old man from Sutherland has died after he was badly burned in an accidental fire Saturday afternoon.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, North Platte and Sutherland Fire Departments were called to a rural residence west of Sutherland at around 4:48 pm.

Deputies say it was reported that Fred Maire was badly burned while lighting a fire outside his home.

According to investigators, it appears Maire was attempting to light some articles of trash on fire in a burn barrel when part of his clothing caught fire.

Maire, who was badly burned, was transported to Great Plains Health.

While being treating at the hospital, Maire died as a result of his injuries.

The LCSO says Maire’s death has been ruled accidental.
