Robert Bernard Deutschman

robert-deuscthman     Robert Bernard Deutschman, age 85, of North Platte, died December 18, 2015 at Centennial Park Retirement Village.  He was born on August 21, 1930 in Laramie, WY to Ben and Zida (Stinger) Deutschman.  Bob graduated from North Platte High School in 1949.  After graduation, he began serving his apprenticeship as a machinist, following in his father’s footsteps.

He was then called to serve his country in Korea from 1951-1953.  After his discharge, he returned to North Platte where he continued his career as a machinist with the Union Pacific Railroad where he remained for the next 41 years.  In 1953, Bob married Mary Eychner, who was a teacher with the North Platte School System.

To this union, Dick and Jane were born. The family enjoyed eight years of the storybook family until Jane died suddenly of leukemia in 1968.  Bob was an avid sportsman, a talented trap shooter, hunter, and golfer.  He was a charter and lifetime member of the Lincoln County Wildlife Gun Club, and a charter member of the Twin Rivers Sportsman Club.  He was most proud of the three generation golf legacy of the Deutschman clan.  He, his son Dick, and his grandsons, all represented NPHS at the State Golf Meets.

Survivors include his devoted and loving wife of 62 years, Mary of North Platte; son, Dick (Robin) Deutschman of North Platte; grandchildren, Benjamin (Toni) Deutschman of Blair, NE, Andrew Deutschman of Omaha, Makenzie (fiancé Seth) Deutschman of West Point, NE; Great-grandchildren, Brock and Brody; brother-in-law, George (Judy) Eychner of Kerrville, TX; a sister-in-law, Helen Knapp of Minden; nieces and nephews, Mary Jo (LaMoine) Smith  of Minden, Howard (Pat) Knapp of North Platte, Margaret ( Bill) Scheideler of Lincoln, Scott (Tanya) Eychner of Montana, Brad (Jonelle) Eychner of Virginia, and Susan (Duke) Daniel of Texas.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter Jane.  Memorials may be directed to the NRA (National Rifle Association) and online condolences can be made at www.adamsswanson.com.

Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday December 23, 2015 at North Platte Cemetery with Chaplain Robin Storer officiating.  There will be full military honors graveside.  The register book can be signed Tuesday 9-9.  Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
