NPCC Knights Basketball Defeated by Laramie County

tim wagnerThe North Platte Community College Knights basketball team travelled to Cheyenne, Wyo. and was defeated by the Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles 78-74 in a National Junior College Athletic Association Region IX South Sub-region contest.

The Knights trailed at halftime 37-31, but started the second half on a 15-3 run to take a 46-40 lead.

They continued to lead with just under 14 minutes to go 48-45.  The Golden Eagles cut the Knights lead to one 54-53 with eight minutes to play.

With the Golden Eagles leading by one 75-74, Laramie County’s Iziah Sherman-Newsome attempted a three-pointer to make it a two possession game with 18.2 seconds left. The shot fell short, but Josh McNair grabbed the offensive rebound and put it back to give the Golden Eagles a 77-74 lead.

The Knights fall to 8-7 on the season and 2-3 in the South Sub-region.  They had four players in double figures led by Tim Wagner with 15 points.  Tyree Peter finished with 13 points, Victor Lewis with 12 points and David Ramon finished with 10.  Peter had a double-double by grabbing 12 rebounds.

The Golden Eagles are 11-6 and 3-2 in the sub-region.  They were led by Gavin Peppers, who led all scorers with 20 points.  McNair added 15 points, Alfonso Anderson added 14 points and Sherman-Newsome finished with 10 points.  Micheal Obindu led Laramie in rebounding with nine boards.

The Knights return home on Friday, January 15 to face the Otero Junior College Rattlers.  Game time is at 7 pm CST.
