Man Carries Injured Woman from Burning Lincoln House

lincoln-fire-departmentLINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A Lincoln man is being credited with rescuing a woman from her burning home.

William Curtis Jr. told Lincoln fire officials he was walking home from work just after 2:30 a.m. Friday when he noticed smoke coming from a neighbor’s house.

Fire Investigator Ken Hilger says when no one answered Curtis frantic banging on the door, he kicked it in. That’s when he discovered the home’s 23-year-old resident on the kitchen floor.

Hilger says Curtis carried the woman out the front door. She was taken to a hospital with burns and smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The fire caused about $100,000 in damage to the house and its contents.
