Broncos Introduce Del Rio as New Defensive Coordinator

The new defensive coordinator of the Denver Broncos arrived at the team’s facilities yesterday to, as he put it, ‘get a head start’ on the job. Jack Del Rio was hired as the team’s defensive coordinator on Saturday, replacing Dennis Allen, who left after one season to take the head coaching job with the Oakland Raiders. Del Rio was the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2003 until late November of 2011, when he was fired. In Del Rio’s tenure in Jacksonville, the Jags went 68-71 and reached the playoffs twice. Prior to becoming a head coach, Del Rio was the defensive coordinator in Carolina in 2002, working with current Broncos head coach John Fox. Del Rio played in the NFL for eleven seasons as a linebacker, and was a Pro Bowler in 1994. He is Denver’s seventh defensive coordinator in as many seasons.
