NPCC Knights Softball Adds Eight

NPCC Knights LogoNorth Platte —The North Platte Community College Knights Softball team added eight to their 2016-2017 squad:  Destynee Morgan of Aurora, Colo., Alex Baldner of Broomfield, Colo., Erin Renwick from Brighton, Colo., Kaylee Corell of Castle Rock, Colo., Emmye Bruno of Douglas, Wyo., Renata Schoeneman of Alliance, Neb., Dianarey Kulamanuonalani Talaroc-Kaniho from Lahaina, Hawaii and Alyiah Marie Franco of Syracuse, Utah.

Renwick from Brighton, Colo. She was a two-year letter winner at Eagle Ridge Academy and was a 2014 All Conference Honorable Mention and All Conference Academic First Team.  She is a pitcher and first baseman.

Renwick said, “I love the small town and the small class sizes. I came here for a visit and fell in love with it.”

Baldner from Broomfield, Colo. attends Erie High School and plays outfield for the Havok.

Baldner said, “I chose NPCC because it is a smaller town and I really enjoy that.”

Morgan is from Aurora, Colorado and played centerfield at Eaglecrest High School.  She had a batting average of .295, an on-base percentage of .415 and slugging percentage of .415 this past season.

Morgan said, “I really like the softball program and Coach Higgins is really nice.  I also heard that they had a really good criminal justice program.”

Renwick, Baldner and Morgan, all played for the Havok in the Rocky Mountain Girls Fast pitch Association.

Corell from Castle Rock, Colorado, played second base and centerfield at Douglas County High School.  She played four seasons and had a .239 batting average, a .265 on base percentage and a .282 slugging percentage last season.   Corell played for the Colorado Cardinals competitive team this summer with current Knight Allie Vigil.

Corell said,”I played with Allie competitively this past summer and she said how much she enjoyed it.”

Bruno of Douglas, Wyo., attends Douglas High School and played for the Douglas Dynamite. Bruno is a pitcher and third basemen.

Bruno said, “North Platte is far away but not too far away, so I can drive home.”

Schoeneman is from Alliance, Neb., and played third base for Alliance High School.  Schoeneman has a career batting average of .299 amd an on-base percentage of .419.

Schoeneman said, ”I chose North Platte because it is a small town and it is not too far away from home and I love how close the girls are and how much fun they seem to be.

Talaroc-Kaniho, an outfielder from Lahaina, Hawaii, attends Lahainaluna High School.  She is the second Lady Luna player to play for the Knights.  Jazmin “Mehana” Chang played for the Knights during the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

Franco is from Syracuse, Utah and attends East High School.  During the 2014-15 season, Franco had a .229 batting average, had one home run, a .333 slugging percentage and a .310 on base percentage.

Knights Head Coach Janelle Higgins said, “This class, four of them had committed by end of summer.  These girls have been committed to the school for a long time. They have visited campus since they were juniors. Looking forward to having them on-campus to sign them finally.  Renata has been at our camps for four years, so watching her develop over the past four years and being at camp every year is really fun.”

Six of the eight signed their letter of intent on campus on January 30.  Talaroc-Kaniho and Franco were not present.
