North Platte — The North Platte Community College Lady Knights basketball team defeated the Eastern Wyoming College Lady Lancers 65-47 Friday night at the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium.
The Lady Knights started out the game on an 8-2 run and never trailed in the game. In the first quarter they led by as much as 10 points 21-11 after a three-pointer by Mickenzie Brennan with just under three minutes to play. The Lady Lancers went on a 4-0 run to cut the Lady Knights lead to six at the end of the first quarter, 21-15.
In the second quarter, the Lady Knights scored the first four points to push the lead back up to 10 and maintained that lead until halftime, leading 29-19.
Lady Knight’s sophomore Sarah Mahr scored 10 of the Lady Knights 15 points on three field goals and four free throws. Mahr’s 10 points equaled the total point total of the Lady Lancers in the third quarter to extend the Lady Knights lead to 15, 44-29.
The Lady Knights continued their dominance of the Lady Lancers in the fourth quarter outscoring them 13-10 to take the 18 point victory.
Mahr led the Lady Knights with 19 points. Suhmer Mitchell added 11 points.
The Lady Knights are 11-8 on the season and broke an eight game losing streak against the Lady Lancers dating back to the 2011-12 season.
The Lady Lancers drop to 11-13 on the year. Emily Evans led the Lady Lancers with 11 points, with Angelyn Latin adding 10 points. Lacey Knudsen led the Lady Lancers with five rebounds.
