North Platte —The North Platte Community College Lady Knights basketball team were defeated by the Northeast Community College Lady Hawks on “Girl Scout Night” at the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Knights started out the game, taking the early lead 5-2. The Lady Hawks went on a 14-4 run the rest of the quarter to take a 16-9 first quarter lead. Maeva Kitantou scored nine of the 16 to fuel the first quarter surge.
During the second quarter, the Lady Knights rallied behind Suhmer Mitchell’s seven points to outscore the Lady Hawks 20-12 to take a 29-28 halftime lead.
After the break, the Lady Hawks went on a 12-4 spurt to open up the game. In the third quarter, the Lady Knights were held to just six points throughout the quarter. Northeast scored 16 to take a 44-35 lead.
The Lady Knights did outscore the Lady Hawks 18-16 in the final quarter, but lost 60-53.
The Lady Knights, now 11-9 on the season, were led by Mitchell who tallied 19 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lady Hawks are 19-4 on the season. Kitantou led the Lady Hawks with 19 points. Raveen Murray added 15 points.
The Lady Knights are back in action next Friday when they host the Southeast Community College Storm in a National Junior College Athletic Association Region IX Division II contest.
Tip-off is set for 5:30 pm CST.
