North Platte — The North Platte Community College Lady Knights basketball team fell to the Northwest Kansas Technical College Lady Mavericks 81-78 in overtime at the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium on Monday night.
Northwest Kansas jumped out to a 12-6 lead to start the game. The Lady Knights tied the game at 13 after going on a 7-1 run. At the end of one quarter the Lady Mavericks held a 19-17 lead.
The Lady Knights led 32-26 with four minutes left in the half, but the Lady Mavericks outscored the Lady Knights 10-3 during those final four minutes of the half to take a 36-35 halftime lead.
At the beginning of the second half, the Lady Knights jumped out to a 10 point 49-39 lead, but once again the Lady Mavericks outscored the Lady Knights 10-2 to trail the Lady Knights going into the fourth quarter 51-49.
The Lady Knights led 68-60 with just under one minute left in regulation, but Northwest Kansas scored the last eight points to send the game into overtime at 68 each.
During the overtime period, the Lady Mavericks led by as much as five points 78-73, but the Lady Knights had to resort to fouling to have a shot of getting back into the game. The Lady Mavericks outscored the Lady Knights 13-10 in overtime for the win
The Lady Knights drop to 11-12 on the season. Zulema Viescas led the Lady Knights in scoring with 16 points. Mickenzie Brennan finished with 14 points. Sarah Mahr added 12 points and Djimonii Jackson finished with 11 points. Mahr had eight rebounds to lead the Lady Knights .
Northwest Kansas Tech improved to 18-9 on the season. The Lady Mavericks had five players in double figures led by Kaysyn Chintala with 22 points. Tailer Bremer finished with 12 points. Shambrey Budd had 11 points. Tiana Davila and Juliet James, each finished with 10 points.
The Lady Knights travel to the northeastern part of the state to face Midland University JV and Northeast Community College this weekend.
