NPCC Lady Knights Basketball Split Games Over Weekend

thomesha djimoniiNorth Platte —The North Platte Community College Lady Knights basketball team split games over the weekend, defeating the Midland College Junior Varsity Lady Warriors 70-62 on Friday and losing to the Northeast Community College Lady Hawks 83-52 on Saturday.

In the Friday game against the Lady Warriors, the Lady Knights jumped out to an early lead of 15-5 and led at the end of the first quarter 24-15.

In the second quarter the Lady Knights increased their lead to 38-20 with 5:25 left to go in the first half.  At the end of the half the Lady Knights led 38-26.

In the third quarter the Lady Warriors outscored the Lady Knights 21-15 to cut the Lady Knights lead to six, 53-47, entering the fourth quarter.

The Lady Warriors cut the Lady Knights lead to two 64-62 with just under three minutes to play, but the Lady Knights scored the last six points for the victory.

The Lady Knights were led in scoring by Sarah Mahr with 24 points.  Zulema Viescas added 14 points and Thomesha Wilson had 12 points.  Wilson had a double-double by grabbing 12 rebounds.

The Lady Warriors had two players in double figures, led by Madison Voss, who finished with a game-high 27 points.  Sarah Rowe finished with 18 points.  Voss also had eight rebounds

In the Saturday afternoon game, the Lady Hawks took an early commanding lead of 23-4 at the end of the first quarter.  The Lady Hawks increased their lead in the second quarter outscoring the Lady Knights 25-10 to take a 48-14 halftime lead.

In the third quarter both teams scored 20 points each to make the score 68-34.

In the fourth quarter the Lady Knights outscored the Lady Hawks 18-15.

The Lady Knights were led by Mickenzie Brennan with 17 points and Aljahnay Duncan with 12 points. Wilson had four rebounds.

The Lady Hawks outrebounded the Lady Knights 44-24.

The Lady Hawks had four players in double figures led by Francesca Minali with 16 points.  Raveen Murray and Sydney Koel each added 14 points and Brooke Bauer added 11 points.  Minali had a double-double with 10 rebounds.

The Lady Knights are 12-13 on the season and will play their final regular season game when they travel to McCook to play the McCook Community College Lady Indians on Tuesday, February 23 at 5:30 pm.
