NPCC Lady Knights Basketball End Season with Loss to Southeast in Region IX Semis

lady knightsBeatrice – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights basketball team ended their season in the National Junior College Athletic Association Region IX Division II semifinal game, being defeated by the Southeast Community College Lady Storm 85-78.

The game started out well for the Lady Knights leading at the end of the first quarter by 10 points 23-13.

They continued in the second quarter leading the Lady Storm at halftime 40-32.

At the beginning of the third quarter the Lady Storm went on an 11-0 run to take the lead 43-40, but the Lady Knights finished the quarter strong and led 59-54 at the end of three quarters.

In the final quarter the Lady Storm outscored the Lady Knights 31-19 to gain the win.

Free throw shooting made a difference in the contest.  The Lady Knights shot 23 of 33 from the line for 69.7 percent. The Lady Storm shot 32 of 43 for 74.4 percent

The Lady Knights end the year with a 12-15 record.  Mickenzie Brennan finished with a career high 19 points on the day to lead the Lady Knights.  Djimonii Jackson and Suhmer Mitchell finished with 14 points each.  Sarah Mahr was the fourth Lady Knight in double digits with 13 points and Thomesha Wilson was the fifth with 10 points.  Wilson and Brennan each had nine rebounds to lead the Lady Knights.

Mahr’s 13 points put her career total at 575 points which is 18th on the Lady Knights all-time scoring list.

The Lady Storm improve to 12-15 on the season and will advance to the Region IX championship game against Central Community College on Monday, Feb 29 in Columbus.

The Lady Storm had four players score in double digits led by Bree Nielson-Matthews with 19 points. Grace Green added 16 points.  Kaatia Watene had 11 points and Ja’yla Brown finished with 10 points.  Green finished with 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Storm.

The game was the final game in a Lady Knight’s uniform for sophomores Zulema Viescas, Jacey Schlegel, Djimonii Jackson, Sarah Mahr, and Maddie Seamann.
