Three NPCC Lady Knights Basketball Players Selected to All-Conference Team

mahr jackson viescasNorth Platte –The Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference has announced its All-Conference Women’s basketball team for the 2015-16 season.

Two North Platte Community College Lady Knights players were named to the team and one was named Honorable Mention.  Sarah Mahr and Djimonii Jackson were named to the team and Zulema Viescas was named Honorable Mention.

Mahr, a sophomore from Sidney, led the Lady Knights in scoring with a 13.8 points per game scoring average.  She also led the Lady Knights in rebounding at 5.1 rebounds per game.  Mahr did receive one first place vote in the balloting.

Lady Knights Head Coach Richard Thurin said, “Sarah was a real leader on team and very intense player.”

Jackson, a sophomore from Beaumont, Texas averaged 8.4 ppg and 3.5 rpg for the Lady Knights.  She did lead the team and the conference in steals with 3.0 steals per game.

Thurin said, “Moni (Jackson) was a great defensive player and also contributed much on offense.”

Viescas, a sophomore from El Paso, Texas averaged 6.8 ppg, 2.7 rpg and 1.5 assists per game.  She was a 3-point shooter, averaging 5.6 shots per game from behind the arc.  She was a 32.9 percent three-point shooter.

Thurin said, “Zu (Viescas) was a very good point guard and was very important at getting things started on offense.”

The top vote-getter on the All-Conference team was Chante Church from McCook Community College.  Church a sophomore averaged 18.8 ppg and 5.0 rpg.

Church is joined on the squad by teammates Kendra Buacom and Jovana Jovovic.

Central Community College had three on the squad: Shananthia Bryant, Christina Daniels and Teisha Snyder.

Southeast Community College also had three players named:  Jay’la Brown, Bree’ Nielson Matthews and Veshae Wilkenson.

McCook Community College Head Coach Jon Froelich was named NCCAC Coach of the year.
