North Platte –North Platte Community College Knights basketball player Diontae Champion was selected to the 2016 National Junior College Athletic Association Region IX All-Tournament Team following the Region IX men’s tournament in La Junta, Colo.

Champion, a freshman from Arlington, Texas scored 27 points against Trinidad State Junior College and 26 points against Miles Community College in the two games that the Knights played in the tournament.

Knights Head Coach Kevin O’Connor said, “Diontae definitely earned his spot on the All-Tournament Team.  He played 2 outstanding games in the tournament for us.  In addition he became our most consistent player at both ends of the floor the last month of the season. He is truly deserving of this recognition.”

During the season, Champion led the Knights in scoring with a 15.2 points per game average.  He was second on the team in rebounding with 6.7 rebounds per game and led the Knights and Region IX in steals with 2.6 steals per game.
