Elaine L. Kockrow, 80, of North Platte, passed away March 21, 2016 at her home. She was born July 5, 1935, to Charles and Marjorie (Swanson) Oden at Chariton, Iowa. She graduated from Chariton High School and received a scholarship to Broadlawns Memorial Hospital to study nursing in Des Moines, IA. Upon graduation Elaine then moved to North Platte and was employed at the Memorial Hospital. On Dec. 21, 1958, she was united in marriage to Donald R. Kockrow. She continued her nursing career and went on to Mid Plains Vocational College as a nursing instructor for over 30 years. She authored six editions of Fundaments of Nursing and Adult Health Nursing, a nursing text book with Barbara Christiansen. She enjoyed traveling and shopping and especially loved spending time with her family. She was a member of Bethel Church. Elaine is survived by her twin daughters, Annie (Philip) Pearson of Florida and Amy (Jack) Pompei of Ohio; her son, D. Bradley Kockrow of Colorado; two grandsons, Jonathan and Caleb; two sisters, Phyllis (Bill) Spaur of Washington and Sharon Dunning of Kansas; nieces, including Ruth Greenlee; nephews and a host of friends and former students. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2006; a brother, Dean and a sister, Barbara. Online condolences may be shared at www.carpentermemorial.com. Memorials are suggested to a Nurses Scholarship Fund at North Platte College of Nursing. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Pastor Brett Terry officiating. Burial will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2016 at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery. The casket will be closed. Those wishing to sign the register book may do so from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which is in charge of arrangements.
