NPCC Knights Softball Lose Doubleheader to Trinidad

North Platte – The North Platte Community College Knights Softball team lost a doubleheader to the Trinidad State Junior College Lady Trojans 16-6 and 6-5 on Friday afternoon at the Wayne A. Dowhower Softball Complex.

In game one, the Lady Trojans jumped out to an early lead scoring nine runs in the first inning. The Lady Trojans sent 13 batters to the plate during the first inning. In the second inning the Lady Trojans Chelsey Runyon hit a solo home run and the Trojans added five runs in the inning to take a
14-0 lead.

The Knights got on the board in their half of the second on a home run by Makenzi DeCrow over the left field fence. In the inning, the Knights scored four runs to make the score 14-4 in favor of the Lady Trojans.

Trinidad State scored a run in the third and fourth inning for their 15th and 16th runs.

The Knights scored two runs in the third. One each by Sara Villalobos and Samantha Foster.

In the second game, the Lady Trojans scored two runs in the top of the first, but the Knights answered back with three runs by Sami Gill, Villalobos and Foster to take a 3-2 lead after one inning.

The Lady Trojans tied the game up at three with a run by Demi Madalena.

The Knights took the lead back 5-3 with runs by DeCrow and Shelby Belloni in the bottom of the second.

The Lady Trojans got one run back in their half of the third when Samantha Glover doubled and scored to make the score 5-4 in favor of the Knights.

The score remained 5-4 until the top of the seventh inning. The Lady Trojans’ Glover reached first on an error and Runyon singled to start the seventh inning, both scoring on a double by the Lady Trojan pitcher Madalena to give the Lady Trojans the 6-5 lead.

The Knights weren’t able to score in the bottom of the seventh.

The Knights fall to 12-21 on the season. The Lady Trojans improve to 23-8.

The Knights are in action again on Tuesday, April 5 when they travel to McCook to play McCook Community College in a doubleheader. Game times are at 5 pm and 7 pm CDT.
