Huskers Win Five Titles at Texas Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas – The Nebraska track and field team took home five event titles at the Texas Invitational at Mike A. Myers Stadium on Saturday.

Junior Tierra Williams highlighted the day by winning the women’s triple jump with an all-time personal best 43-9 3/4 (13.35m), which puts her at No. 7 in NU outdoor history. Her mark ties her for first in the nation.

Cody Rush won the men’s 400 meters with a season-best time of 46.32. Matt Gilbert took the 3,000 meters title with a time of 8:21.88, an outdoor personal best by 13 seconds. The men’s 4×400 relay ran 3:09.01 to win the event with their fastest time of the season. Seth Derr threw the javelin 218-1 (66.47m) to finish as the top collegian.

Steven Cahoy cleared 17-1 (5.21m) in the pole vault on his first attempt to earn second place among collegians, while Craig Driver was fourth after clearing 17-1 (5.21m) on his third attempt. Kaiwan Culmer was the triple jump runner-up with a wind-aided mark of 51-4 1/4 (15.65m). Culmer was also sixth in the long jump, leaping 22-7 (6.88m). Reilly Lambrecht was fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 46-2 1/2 (14.08m). Grant Anderson was fourth in the high jump (6-8, 2.03m).

Sarah Firestone was second in the javelin with a throw of 169-0 (51.52m) on her fifth attempt. Tierney Lindner was second in the high jump with a clearance of 5-8 (1.73m) on her first attempt. The Husker women took third through fifth in the long jump with Reka Czuth (19-11 1/2, 6.08m), Jazmin McCoy (19-10 1/4 (6.05m) and Kari Heck 19-7 1/2, 5.98m). Paula Andrie cleared 13-4 1/4 (4.07m) in the pole vault and placed seventh among collegiate athletes. Toni Tupper was seventh in the shot put, throwing 48-7 1/4 (14.81m).

On the track, Chanel Freeman took sixth among collegiate athletes in the 100-meter hurdles, stopping the clock at 13.60. Chantal Duncan was sixth in the 400 meters in 55.01. Jasmine Barge was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.19, a new personal best and the No. 7 mark in school history. The 4×400 relay ran a season-best 3:41.34 to finish fourth. The 4×100 relay ran a season-best time of 45.64 to place fifth.

Among other men’s runners, Peter Spinks ran the 3,000-meter Steeplechase in 9:13.22 to finish second. Alexandre was fourth in the 400 meters at 46.67. Sean Pille took third in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing in a season-best 52.73. Christian Cook led the Huskers in the 110-meter hurdles with a fourth-place finish in 14.13, while Antoine Lloyd was one spot behind him at 14.17. Malcolm White finished fifth among collegians in the 100 meters, posting a time of 10.36 to match his personal best.

The meet was scored with some of the top teams in the nation on hand. The Nebraska men totaled 124.5 points to finish second, just 13.5 points behind Texas. The Husker women were fifth with 72.5 points.

Next week, the Huskers will compete at the Kansas Relays from Wednesday through Saturday.
