Special kayaks for paralyzed people stolen near Grand Island

Grand-Island-PoliceGRAND ISLAND, Neb. (AP) — Authorities are trying to find two stolen kayaks that had been modified for people with paralysis.

The Heartland Chapter of Heroes on the Water noticed the two were missing after an outing with veterans Saturday at the Mormon Island State Recreation Area on the Platte River south of Grand Island.

Adam Dresden with the chapter says the kayaks are valued at about $1,000 and are the only two the chapter has that have the special adaptive seats. The seats help paralyzed people keep their weight centered.
