There was no relief in sight for the Nebraska baseball team in their season opening series against Gonzaga in Peoria, Arizona, as they let late leads slip away in all three games in a Bulldog sweep. On Friday, a three-run eighth inning by Gonzaga lifted them to a 7-4 victory. Saturday night saw newly-named closer Tyler Niederklein allow five runs in the ninth inning as an 8-5 lead turned into a 10-8 defeat. And on Sunday, Brandon Pierce was called upon to close out a 4-2 ninth-inning lead but allowed three runs, and the Huskers went on to lose 5-4. The Huskers will be back on the road next weekend when they head to Corpus Christi, Texas, for the Kleberg Bank College Classic. Nebraska will play Utah on Friday and Saturday, and then meet Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday and UNLV Sunday.
