Hastings – “Holy cow, what a game.” That was how Lady Knights Volleyball Coach Alexa McCall described the win over Hastings College Junior Varsity on Tuesday night.
“It wasn’t always pretty, but we won in five,” McCall said.
The Lady Knights defeated the Lady Broncos three sets to two 26-24, 19-25, 23-25, 25-15, and 17-15 for their first win of the season.
The Lady Knights were down 12-9 in the final set and Hastings was at match point 14-13. The Lady Knights rallied to take the last set 17-15 for the win.
“I’m proud of the girls for pulling it out,” McCall said. “We were up and down and they really decided to turn it around and push.”
Three Lady Knights finished with double figures in kills. Jessica Lovitt led the Lady Knights with 13. Josie Palmer had 12 and MaKenna Ketter ended with 11. Shelby Wolever had 18 set assists and Megan Chintala had 27 defensive digs to lead the Lady Knights.
“I thought we blocked well and we started to be more aggressive towards the end,” McCall said. “We needed this, and we will continue to work hard and improve.”
The Lady Knights had five solo blocks and eight assisted blocks as a team.
The Lady Knights travel to McCook on Friday to participate in the McCook Invite. They will play Hesston College at 11 a.m., Colby Community College at 3 p.m., and McCook Community College at 7 p.m.
The Lady Knights are looking to avenge losses to Colby and McCook from the Subway Invite last weekend.
