Sharon Lee Smidt, 74, of North Platte, passed away peacefully in her home on October 19.
Sharon was born in Standish, Michigan to Jim and Maurine Ross on December 20, 1941. She graduated with a teaching degree from UNL in Lincoln, Nebraska and married her one true love, Maynard, on April 14, 1964. Sharon worked as a mother and homemaker, dedicating her life to raising her three children. She attended every sporting event and never missed a parent/teacher conference. Always thinking of others, Sharon dedicated many years of her life volunteering at Great Plains Medical Center. She was a loving and devoted grandma, making each birthday and holiday special by sending her grandchildren carefully chosen care packages. Sharon was an avid reader and always enjoyed a good game of Trivia Crack and Words with Friends with her sisters, friends, and family. A Husker fan for her entire life, she enjoyed cheering on the football and volleyball team. Sharon’s life was rich as it revolved around her family, the people she loved most. Sharon leaves to cherish her loving memory, her husband, Maynard Smidt; her children, Kim Ridder of Lincoln, Kristi Murphy of Omaha and Jeff Smidt of Denver; Sisters, Margaret Honeycutt of Lincoln and Kathy Mischnick of Eagan, Minnesota; 4 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Memorials may be given to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cozad, Nebraska.Funeral services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cozad Nebraska on Saturday, October 22 at 10:00 AM. Sharon’s nephew, Jim Reier, will officiate. Friends are welcome to sign her memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, October 21, at Carpenter Memorial Chapel which is in charge of arrangements.
