George E. Maire, 86, formerly of North Platte, passed away Nov 5, 2016 at Plattsmouth, NE. He was born May 25, 1930 to Elton and Gertrude (Babcock) Maire at Mullen. George graduated from Mullen High School. He was enlisted in the Army for eight years, serving during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Lorena Hammock on June 30, 1953 at Atlanta, Georgia. George helped his parents on the family ranch from 1956 – 1962. He was employed as a brakeman with Union Pacific Railroad for 25 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family along with fishing, hunting, camping and traveling. George also loved spending his time as grandpa.
He is survived by his wife, Lorena of Plattsmouth; son, Garland (Debby) of Kearney; daughters, Paula Cain of Plattsmouth and Linda (Kevin) Conant of Lincoln; grandchildren, Amanda, Adam, Kerri, Natalie, Jenny, Shawnie, and Nathan; great-grandchildren, Caden, Brylee, Conner, Andrew, Macie, and Cheyenne, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Steven DeWayne in 1957. Online condolences may be shared at www.carpentermemorial.com. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Burial will be at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell with military honors. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which is in care of arrangements.
